The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was back in Singapore for the second time in promotional background Saturday (June 17, 2017) with UFC Fight Night 111: Holm vs. Correia. It was an entertaining night of scraps which saw six of 12 bouts ending inside the space, and with this activity now in our rear view, let’s look at that of the day’s competitors we might no longer see going to work inside the Octagon…
ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK
Andrei Arlovski
Arlovski came up short in a unanimous-decision reduction to Marcin Tybura and has now suffered five straight defeats inside the Octagon, with all five of them coming against the heavy hitters of this division. It wouldn’t shock me to see him get another chance, but I think that it is likely that we’ve seen the last of Arlovski. If they desired to keep him around, I believe they could have given him another opponent than Tybura, since the Pole was riding a red hot win series with a pair of knockout finishes.
Tarec Saffiedine
Saffiedine has now suffered three consecutive defeats and is 1-4 in his last five outings within the Octagon. The lone victory during this stretch has been a unanimous-decision over Jake Ellenberger. Due to that losing streak, I think there’s a fair chance that the promotion will elect to part ways with the prior Strikeforce welterweight champion. I would say it’s 50/50 as to if we see Saffiedine remain in the organization.
Takanori Gomi
Gomi has now last four in a row — all via first-round end — and it’s probable that the 38-year-old veteran will be getting his walking papers from the advertising. The fact that there is a card coming up in Japan makes me believe they can give him yet another crack, so at this point, we have a 50/50 shot best of viewing”The Fireball Kid” back.
